SPECIALISING

I specialise in Fresh, decorative Silk and Dried Flowers, also incorporating wild foliage herbs, satin ribbon, lace and tartan. If you have a special fabric of sentimental value I can make up a keepsake to match.

KEEPSAKES

Keepsakes could take the form of either pincushions pot-pourri satches, pomanders or love hearts, which could be given as a token of either love, affection or friendship. Especially to those that you may have shared fond memories or good times with when you were single. Also not forgetting the love of your life, whom you are about to wed and share married life with.

INTRODUCTION TO VICTORIAN WEDDING FAYRE

Before the great Victorian Era, wedding flowers and arrangements were given very little attention. Their designs were largely uninspired. However, these attitudes changed dramatically at the time of Victorian Britain some 100 years ago. There was a great increase in flower arrangements due to more emphasis on detail. Arrangements for weddings and special occasions were becoming highly intensive, for example. According to publications of the time, we hear of bridesmaids carrying shoes made from satin, filled with flowers and decorated with ribbon and lace. (Perhaps you would like something different such as this for your wedding day?).

CHOICE

You could choose from a wide selection of designs and ideas, which could be individually adapted to suit your own budget.

CEREMONIES

Wedding Ceremonies: Proper rules and customs were dictated for the wedding ceremony, to give and to grant respect and to honour to the modest bride.

WEDDING FLOWERS

Victorian peoples love of flowers was such in evidence - floral displays at home, in church receptions and cake decorations.

Corsages and Coiffures were flowers worn on their hats and on their shoulders and waists. The groom wore a Buttonhole matching his brides flowers.

Bridesmaids, Flower girl’s and Pageboys shared the brides flowers (picked for their meaning message) in a round Nosegay posy laced with circles of flowers and looped ribbons. Various shapes and forms of flowers were carried, eg. Wooden Spoons, Shepherd Crooks, Heart shaped Baskets, Lucky Black Cats and Horseshoes. They were all symbols of good luck and were made and designed in the home from the countryside.
